Week 5: Alex’s Winter Note
Alex walked through the snowy path in the Enchanted Forest, watching his breath puff out in little clouds. The trees stood quietly, their branches heavy with snow, and the ground felt soft and cold under his boots.
He knelt beside a fallen log and brushed away some snow. Underneath, he found damp leaves, a bit of green moss, and a tiny tunnel—just the right size for a mouse.
Alex wondered about the animals and plants hiding from the cold. He wanted to tell them he was thinking of them.
Mr. Owl landed nearby, his feathers fluffed up against the chill. “Even when the forest seems quiet, there’s life waiting and hoping under the snow,” Mr. Owl said softly.
Alex reached into his pocket and pulled out a small piece of paper and a pencil stub. He wrote:
Dear Forest Friends, I hope you are warm and cozy under the snow. You’re hiding right now, but I hope you’re okay. I’ll come back to see you when spring comes. Your friend, Alex
He tucked the note under a dry piece of bark in the log, then placed a pinecone on top to keep it safe.
Alex listened for a moment. He heard a faint rustle—maybe a mouse, maybe just the snow settling. He smiled, feeling a little closer to the secret world under his feet.
Mr. Owl watched him with kind, golden eyes. “Kindness can reach even the quietest places, Alex.”
Alex stood, brushed the snow from his knees, and walked on, feeling happy knowing he’d left a little hope for the hidden forest.
If you could leave a note for the animals and plants hidden under the snow, what would you write? Alex would love to hear your message! Share it in the comments or ask a grown-up to send it to us through the contact page.
